COMPUTER GAME DESIGN 101 & 102 Ages 8 to 12

In this hands-on, fun filled camp young people will learn to design and program video games by creating their very own computer game. Kids learn about design and programming practices. At the end of the camp, campers take home on CD the games they create.
The camps are ideal for both experienced and first time campers.

Campers will enjoy a fun-filled week of astronomy lessons grounded in art as they paint, draw and create their way across the universe and into the night sky. Art inspiration will be crafty as well as being drawn from astronomy-related myths and legends from across different cultures.

Young People will discover the colorful whimsical folk arts Latin America and Asia has to offer. We will expose children to different mediums and cultures whether it be sculpture, portraiture or pottery. In the end students will feel they have become craft-masters!

AQUABOTS Ages 6 - 8 and 9 to 12

We take our campers beneath the Bermuda Triangle on the undersea adventures of their lives! Young people will spend a week building and programming robots. They'll build robots to explore the ocean floor, save a giant squid, connect an air pipeline, and more. Parents are invited to an end-of-the-session "graduation" at YPW. New challenges included for returning students.

Introduce your Young People to the exciting world of chess. Improve analytical thinking, selfconfidence, and competitive skills while learning or improving Chess. While playing chess your child will learn problem solving strategies not only applicable in the game but also in daily life. CSI: FORENSIC SCIENCE THE CASE OF THE LOST SKULL Ages 8 to 12

A mysterious animal skull has been left outside our school with money stuffed inside it, a shoe print beside it, and other potential trace evidence in the area. This introductory forensic unit will show our young people how to address the question of who put it there. They will analyze fingerprint, blood (fake), hair, fiber and imprint among others.

Become the designer you dreamed of in this artistic textile camp. Young People will get their hands messy while experimenting with traditional batik techniques, “far-out” tie-dye bandanas, and painted wall hangings. The class will even collaboratively design and screen print a class t-shirt for each campgoer to take home, along with their other completed creations.

ROBOT-DRAULICS Ages 8 to 12
Instructor: Monica Moreno
Learn about different ways robots move and operate
Test your skills with teammates while you operate models of a lifting platform, an excavator, a cherry picker, a scissor lift and a mobile arm. Move everything with the power of water and air pressure (pneumatics and hydraulics). Then the second part of the week, become an electro-wizard as you discover electric circuits, experiment with electromagnets, and build electric motors. Then construct and build your own robot, which is yours to take home.

ROBOCHALLENGE: SPACE MISSION ADVENTURE Ages 8 to 13

Young People will be taken to fun and fact-filled expedition into deep space. Campers will build 5 robots to explore and perform tasks on Planet H-99, including preparing and building a base camp, monitoring a volcano, rescuing a lost vehicle and more!

This is a five-day fun and creative learning experience for kids to attend during spring break or/and summer. Elementary and middle school kids form project teams to solve challenges by building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Invention System. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, computer simulation, project management and teamwork skills. ROBOTS WITH LEGO NXT Ages 9 to 13

This camp is an introduction to building and programming robots using the LEGO NXT system. Students will learn mechanical design, construction, programming and teamwork skills. In small teams, using LEGO blocks, motors and sensors, students build robots that can walk, draw, move objects, or find their own way and avoid obstacles. Students use a control console or computer to teach their robots to move, react, and make sounds in order to solve challenges.

ROBOTS WITH LEGO NXT: TERRAFORMERSAges 9 to 13

This Deep Space Terraformers Camp leads young campers to the edge of the universe in a robotic adventure that glimpses a future when humankind will transform distant planets into livable habitats.
In this Camp adventure, campers are first tasked to learn basics in the training areas on the Space Shuttle Entropy. Next, campers visit a series of moons, where they hone their terraforming skills. The adventure culminates on the planet Pantheon. Robo campers help transform Pantheon into an environment where humanoids can live and thrive while building and programming various robots.

STORYBOOK SCIENCE Ages 4 to 6

A uniquely scientific take on popular and classic fictional tales, Storybook Science delves into the story “Gregory, the Terrible Eater” to discover, through scientific experiments, which of Gregory’s meals contain actual iron! After reading “The Emperor and the Kite”, camp-goers learn about the processes of flight while building their very own kite. Even more stories with accompanying science lessons will be explored. What amazing adventures!

SURGEONS IN TRAINING Ages 9 to 12

Learn how to perform dissections on a variety of animals including worms, grasshoppers, frogs among others in this fun and exciting hands-on biology camp. Young people will learn about the circulatory, respiratory, nervous, digestive, and immune systems of their own bodies and apply this knowledge to the dissection and analysis of animal body systems. They will also learn appropriate lab and dissection safety. A great way for future doctors, veterinarians, and biologists to get hands-on experience!

SPA SCIENCE - IT'S REAL CHEMISTRY - Ages 6 to 12
Instructor: Sandy Southwell
Whip your bath into a frothy fizzing sea of color and fragrance. Make colorful, fragrant bath gels, bath fizzers, spa lotion, and bath balm. Mix colors and fragrances to create your own product line with secret and exclusive mixtures. Explore the science of gels, fragrance, and fizzers as you make your own.
Campers will learn about Chemical Reactions. Young People will mix chemicals that bubble, change color, and produce gas, heat and odor.
Campers will take home their spa creations.

Young People investigate the properties of substances as they make their own personal brands of paste, toothpaste, cola, ice cream and magical potions.
This camp provides real-life experiences with chemistry, and conveys key science/math skills and concepts.

There is nothing that little people find more exiting that the rough, tough world of vehicles, aircraft and boats! This camp provides an interactive way for children to learn about the physical world in which they live by designing and building vehicles using Lego construction models. Young People explore basic mechanics and design features; learn to discuss, plan, and test ideas; and strengthen their sorting and classifying skills.

Young People are invited to be 'wildly creative' as they travel through the animal kingdom with an awesome assortment of art activities. Campers will use a variety of methods and mediums as they explore and learn about animals from A to Z. Dinosaurs, sharks, lions, butterflies and more are sure to be included!

If you have registered for a full day camp, your child will need to bring a sack lunch.
Lunch supervision is provided for full day campers.

The following discounts apply to siblings as well. For instance, when you register two siblings for any of our camps, you'll pay $210 plus registration fee if any is applicable.

Payment in full is required to hold a spot. Please, call 512 329 5611 to register with a credit card. Otherwise, you can either fax your form to: 512 366 9333 or stop by at our location in the West Woods Shopping center to register in person.

• One registration form must be completed for each camper you are registering.

• Registration forms with incomplete or inaccurate information will not be processed.

• Forms may be faxed or mailed, please do not do both!

In the event that minimum enrollments are not met, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule camps. If this happens, your entire registration will be refunded.

CANCELLATIONS / EXCHANGES / REFUNDS

Due to the high demand for camp spaces, each sale will be considered final.

• Registrations are not transferable from child to child.

• Families who cancel a camp or wish to switch their child from one camp to another will receive a 50% refund of the cost of a cancelled or dropped camp if notification is received at least 10 working days before that camp starts. There are no refunds for camps cancelled or dropped less than 10 working days before camp begins.

• In order to receive the 50% refund, famiies must contact YPW via email: ypw@YoungPeoplesWorkshops.com
