Spanish for ages 3 to 5 and Art workshops weekly outline has been published. Please see below in the Spanish and Art section for further information.

WE ARE NOW ENROLLING FOR WINTER WORKSHOPS – CLASS SIZES ARE LIMITED – REGISTER TODAY!
We are currently enrolling for our 4 or 6-week introductory workshops which meet weekly starting in January.

Future workshops will be 9 to 12 weeks duration.

Children 4 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
Space is limited to 12 to 15 kids per workshop.
Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis.
The decision to cancel a workshop, which does not meet its required minimum enrollment, is made approximately one week before the beginning date.
A child readiness is more important than the age guidelines noted. Call if you wish to discuss the level of work in any workshop.

Each workshop requires a minimum of 6 children.

Creative Beginnings: 18 months+ (4 Week Workshop)
Note to the Parents:
The Pre-School art workshops are focused on a process oriented approach rather than a product.  Much of what students are able to do at this age is simply become familiar with a variety of materials and media used in the art making. Instruction will be directed to parents who then guide their students through the processes presented each day. The Instructor will be present for guidance and tips.

Week 1- Exploring Media: Tactile Fun

Young People and Parents will be introduced to a variety of materials used in the creation of art. Media such as painting, clay, collage, stamping and other mark making processes will be explored. The focus will be on process rather than product as Young People learn to develop fine motor skills and become familiar with the tactile experience associated with the creation of art.

 

Week 2 Collage: Shaping the Image

Young People and Parents will explore collage making as a media used in art.  Using a variety of pre-cut shapes and other tactile materials, Young People will be introduced to the use of geometric shapes to create a familiar image. The focus will be on shape, collage process and tactile materials. 

 

Week 3 Watercolor Resist: Lines in Our World

Line variation with crayon and watercolor paint will be the focus, as Young People and parents will combine the two media to produce an abstract design. The development of fine motor skills to control crayon marking and brush control will be practiced.

 

Week 4 Paint and the Circle: Kadinskys Farbestudie Quadrate

Young People and Parents will use tempera paint to create an image similar to Kadinsky Farbestudie. Concentrating on repetition, circle shapes and a variety of colors, Young People will use brush control to create colorful circles in folded paper blocks.

Week 1-Drawing: Winter Snow people

Young People will explore the media of pastel by creating a winter snowperson.  Becoming familiar with visual effects and techniques associated in using pastels such as blending and mixing will be taught and applied in creating the visual image.

 

Week 2-Collage: My Working Robot

Young People will create their own imaginary robot through the process of collage.  Using geometric shapes, paper techniques, and various materials, Young People will practice cutting and tearing skills associated with the art of collage.  Artists who use the media of collage will be studied for inspiration.

 

Week 3 & Week 4: Paint: Glad Monster, Sad Monster

After reading the book Glad Monster, Sad Monster, Young People will gain knowledge of the tempera paint process by creating a monster portrait that expresses emotion.  The use of color and line can express emotion; Young People will use these elements to clearly communicate their monsters emotion.

 

Week-5 & Week-6: Colorful Castles

Young People will combine the process of collage and paint to create an image of a castle. The first session will focus on color mixing.  Young People will use watercolor paints to create secondary and intermediate colors.  The second session will focus on using their painted paper to create a castle collage.  While constructing their collage, Young People will learn the parts of a medieval castle.

Week 1 Drawing: Self Portraits with Decorative Frames

After learning the fundamental rules involved in portraiture, Young People will create their own self-portrait. Using mirrors, Young People will focus on shapes and lines associated with their face.  After completing the portraits, Young People will design a decorative frame to complete their work.

 

Week 2 Collage: Jazz it Up!

After studying the art of Romare Beardon, Young People will create their own image of a jazz musician applying the process of collage. Using symbols and increasing skills with familiar objects and materials, Young People will have the opportunity to listen to jazz music while they create their work.

 

Week 3 & Week 4 Mixed Media: Cave Art of Lascaux

After receiving a brief history on the animal cave paintings in Lascaux, France, Young People will create their own interpretive cave drawing. Subject matter will concentrate on pre-historic animals showing action. A variety of materials such as paper bags, charcoal, oil pastels and tempera paint will be used.

 

Week 5 & Week 6- Paper Sculpture: African Masks
Two class periods will be spent on constructing masks in relief form inspired by masks from Africa.  Young People will study a variety of African Masks and understand the purpose of the mask in Africa. The technical focus will be on constructing ways to manipulate paper to create sculptural forms, produce a variety of visual effects and experimentation.


EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC & MOVEMENT

This is a mixed-age workshop for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We meet once a week for 45 minutes.  The workshop features singing, rhythmic chants, playful creative movements activities, and instrumental jam sessions with a variety of instruments.

Week 1- Saludos  y Despedidas
Young People and parents will learn various methods of introducing themselves through conversation, reading and singing
.

Week 2- Colores

Young People and parents will learn and practice basic colors in Spanish through reading, games, and singing. Greetings
 will be reviewed to promote on going practice.

Week 3-  Números y Formas

Young People and parents will learn and practice counting from 1-20, be introduced to basic shapes through reading, games, and singing. We will continue integrating greetings and colors for on going practice.

Week 4- Animales

Young People and parents will learn animals and their sounds through singing, reading, and games. Greetings, colors, numbers, and shapes will be reinforced.

Week 5- Abecedario

Young People and parents will learn pronunciation and practice the Spanish abcs through singing, reading, and games. Greetings, colors, numbers, shapes, and animals will be reinforced.

Week 6- Partes del Cuerpo

Young People and parents will learn basic body parts through reading, music, and games.

Greetings, colors, numbers, shapes, animals, and the alphabet will be reinforced.

Spanish for children ages 6 to 12: 50 minute session.
