Our Mission
YPW strives to help young people discover intelligent fun through educational hands-on workshops exploring different branches of art, science and technology.

Music & Movement

YPW offers Music & Movement Workshops for Children - Newborn-Kindergarten and the Adults who Love Them!

Max 12 young people per workshop.

Children are innately drawn to music. And why shouldn’t they be? They have been listening to the rhythm and melody of their mother’s voice since the fourth month after conception.

Children learn best through moving and listening. Music and movement classes will help them grow and develop into successful students.

Music’s melodic and rhythmic patterns provide exercise for the brain and help develop memory. Remember singing the ABC song to learn your ABC’s?   Music awakens and stimulates neural pathways in the brain that are associated with higher forms of intelligence, such as abstract thinking, empathy, mathematics and science.   Studying music helps children establish good listening habits, which are essential for achievement in school.

Overall, music activities are perfect for child development. Music immerses the child in language, evokes movement, stimulates the brain and fosters physical coordination – all in a group setting that builds community – a holistic experience.

Each workshop will include:
- Greeting song in which each child is named.
- Variety of movement activities: bouncing, finger plays, body awareness, stationary movement, traveling movement and singing games.
- Unstructured dance to recorded music.
- Several activities involving steady beat.
- Variety of vocal development activities: easy-to-sing songs, songs for adults to sing for their children, voice building activities, chanting.
- Rhythm and tonal echo patterning games.
- Variety of repertoire in terms of meter as well as tonality.
- Listening experiences that include sounds from the environment, human and animal sounds, folk music and classical music.
- Playing instruments and working with accessories such as hoops and scarves.
- Time for children to improvise through body movement, adding verses to songs, exploring ways to play instruments.
- Closing song.
